Kai’s Birthday Celebration at School

Yesterday, we were invited to Kai’s class to share in his birthday celebration. 

To start, we joined the kids and teachers in a circle on the floor. For each year of Kai’s life, we shared a photo and some stories, then Kai carried a globe and walked around the sun, a candle was lit, and the class sang to him, each time in a different language (Chinese, Japanese, English).

After four trips around the sun, he got to blow his candles out. Then, each child and teacher took a small bead, made a wish for Kai’s coming year, and hugged him and wished him happy birthday. We then gathered all the beads in a small bag and brought them home. Quite a memorable experience.

1 Year Old!

 We made it! Kai is officially 1 year old today. And what a year it has been. He’s on the verge of walking, and his vocabulary is growing every day. He can now express thanks, salute, point, make scrunchy and kissy faces, give high fives, play peekaboo, find Sofie (usually lounging under his high chair), and brush his hair.

It’s fascinating to watch his understanding of the world around him develop, and I’m sure his curiosity will only grow with the coming year. Happy birthday, sweet boy.

11 Months!

This big boy is getting into everything now, pulling himself up, pushing chairs and tables around, opening drawers. He has also started pointing at things and loves to play the give things to other people game.

10 Months!

Kai is now moving around the house quite quickly via his “army crawl.” He can wave bye bye and give high fives. He also loves loves loves opening and closing doors.

9 Months!

Kai can now walk around when you hold his hands. He loves walking around and exploring.

8 Months!

This boy loves to eat. Kai loves meat of all kinds, especially steak. He’s also in love with all kinds of fruit. Guess he got his appetite from his mom.

7 Months!

These days, Kai is busy trying out all kinds of foods, and he’s getting better at getting the food in his mouth too. He’s also getting much better at rolling over, both belly to back as well as back to belly.
